dream book conference panel

If I could plan my “perfect” panel of authors and characters to speak at a conference, it would be…

Rick Riordan

The world Rick Riordan has created is the perfect balance of action, humor, and education. I have learned so much about mythology without even realizing it.

Sarah J. Maas

Sarah J. Maas’ world and character building skills are second to none. I could get lost inside of her stories forever*

*except for the fact that I wouldn’t survive for two and a half seconds…

John Green

Do I really need to say anything else? No? I didn’t think so.

Mary E. Pearson

Queen for reasons I can’t even get in to. Just. Read. The Remnant Chronicles.

What good is a panel without the ACTUAL CHARACTERS?*

*yes, we do have those capabilities and in AubreyLand it will happen. Just wait.

Kenji Kishimoto

…is my spirit animal, and we would probably be best friends, and his sarcastic wit is given an A++.

Will Herondale

GAH WILLL WILLL WILLL (Jem would of course come too). Just please.

Hermione Granger

Some characters need no explanation.

Percy Jackson & Annabeth Chase

Do you guys think Annabeth and Hermione would get along or butt heads? A&P are the dream team and are great individually, but together…

Bring on the crazy. You all know I love Winter.

There are certainly more, but some of them are dangerous and I’m not sure they wouldn’t kill me.

Authors: How do you create distinct characters and story lines? How do you stay true to who you are as an author?

Characters: How do you not make quick judgments about other people (i.e. this guy is a bad guy, just kidding not anymore???)

What questions would you ask?

Clearly Leo Valdez and I would moderate because then it would be the funniest panel ever.

Love, Aubrey

I was approached by Cara from Eventbrite with the idea and asked my opinions for this post, however this is not sponsored in any way. If you are interested “Eventbrite is a global marketplace for live experiences that allows people to find and create events in 190 countries.” It’s a cool idea and might allow people to find conferences like this… well maybe not quite this perfect. haha

IF I WAS A FICTIONAL CHARACTER: 15 characters that make ME

A while back, I was doing some of the Blogging Extravaganza posts because I was a little burnt out on everything. Today I was going through all of my drafts I have made and cleaning it out when I found this:

If You Were a Fictional Character
and it got me thinking about what aspects of life make me me that could transfer to some of my favorite characters.

I work really hard at school and I love learning just for the sake of learning. I feel like most people who read do, so for this one I am going to be a mix of Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) and Annabeth Chase (Percy Jackson).

sass & sarcasm

Oh, boy. There are so many choices for this. Sass makes my life. I will be a mix between Leo Valdez (Heroes of Olympus), Kenji Kishimoto (Shatter Me), and William Herondale (The Infernal Devices).

SO maybe this isn’t an important part of a person’s personality OR MAYBE IT IS, but I am a mix between Clary Fairchild (The Mortal Instruments) and Pippin and Merry (Lord of the Rings) and yes, I am counting them as one person because they practically are.

Books are (clearly) super important in my life. I would be Tessa Gray (The Infernal Devices).

I have always been super in to music and always will be, so for this one I would have to choose Park (Eleanor and Park).

“Some people have lives; other people have music.” (John Green)

I love superheroes. It’s probably an unhealthy obsession, but I don’t really care. I would clearly have superpowers if I was a book character and would be a mix between Scarlet Witch (Avengers) BECAUSE SHE IS SO FLIPPIN’ AMAZING, Magnus Chase (The Sword of Summer) bring on the elf magic, and Dumbledore (Harry Potter).

He is clearly a big part of my life, so let’s add in some Gwendolyn Barnes (Chivalrous).

Yep. I’m insane. Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter) and Winter (Winter) are my life.

LET’S CHAT ABOUT MARVELOUS THINGS! How about you? What characters make up WHO YOU ARE? Do you agree with me?

Love, Aubrey

Here is another previous Blogging Extravaganza idea:

Mad Libs
The rules: Pick a scene or passage or whatever from a book, take out names and nouns and adjectives and verbs and all that fun stuff, and create a Mad Lib. Then fill it out and please don’t die laughing. (And be sure to leave a blank version for others to fill out, too!)

I took the first few paragraphs from Magnus Chase The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan page 3. First, a blank one so you can fill it out:

Yeah, I know. You [GROUP OF PEOPLE] are [NOUN] to [VERB] about how I [VERB] in agony, and you’re gonna be like, “Wow! That sounds [ADJECTIVE], [YOUR NAME]! Can I [VERB] in agony too?”

No. Just no.

Don’t go [VERB] off any [NOUN]. Don’t [VERB] into the [NOUN] or [VERB] [NOUN] on fire. It doesn’t work that way. You will not end up where I ended up.

Besides, you wouldn’t want to deal with my situation. Unless you’ve got some [ADJECTIVE] [VERB] to see [NOUN] hacking one another to pieces, [NOUN] flying up [NOUN] [NOUN THAT IS PART OF LAST NOUN], and [NOUN] in snappy outfits, you shouldn’t even [VERB] about [NOUN] the wolf-headed doors.

My name is [YOUR NAME]. I’m [AMOUNT OF TIME] old. This is the [NOUN] of how my life went [ADVERB] after I got myself [ADJECTIVE].

Here is the one I filled out:

Yeah, I know. You [FLOCK] are [CUPCAKE] to [SPREAD] about how I [BLEACH] in agony, and you’re gonna be like, “Wow! That sounds [KNOWLEDGEABLE], [AUBREY]! Can I [BOW] in agony too?”

No. Just no.

Don’t go [PARTICIPATE] off any [DAISY]. Don’t [BROADCAST] into the [TOILET] or [COPY] [BIRTH] on fire. It doesn’t work that way. You will not end up where I ended up.

Besides, you wouldn’t want to deal with my situation. Unless you’ve got some [ADORABLE] [CROUCH] to see [GIRAFFES] hacking one another to pieces, [TURTLES] flying up [GUITAR] [STRINGS], and [BROTHERS] in snappy outfits, you shouldn’t even [DIVE] about [PURPLE] the wolf-headed doors.

My name is [AUBREY]. I’m [1 MILLENNIA] old. This is the [BRICK] of how my life went [ANGRILY] after I got myself [CLUMSY].

So there you go! I challenge you to grab the book closest to you, open to the first page, and do the same thing. Ready, set, go! Leave in the comments your versions of the mad lib or what you would have put in the blanks instead.

Love, Aubrey

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To.

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year.

Biggest Disappointment.

Newest Fictional Crush.

Peter Pan from Tiger Lily (although that’s not new, I have always had a crush on Peter).

Newest Favorite Character.

Winter from Winter. I could go on for days about this girl and AHH! Love her.

Book That Made You Cry.

Book That Made You Happy.

Favorite Book to Film Adaptation.

Favorite Post You Have Done This Year.

It would probably have to be my “I read books that matter” discussion. But I just in general love having discussions and I would say all of my discussion posts would be favorites. I also have a lot of fun writing reviews {review archive}.

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year.

I’m not sure, but this may be the only book I have bought so far in 2016 because I have been attempting to get through all of the books I already own first…

What Books Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year.

Really? ALL OF THEM!!! (Specifically, I made a post about 24 books I really want to get to here.)

I Tag…

Alise & Bec @ Readers in Wonderland // Natalie & Lexie @ The Honest Book Club // Cee @ The Novel Hermit // Caterina @ Trust In the Words // Carrie @ Reading Is My Superpower // AND YOU!

*tagging people is a lot of work, so if you would like to do this tag you are officially tagged. I always try to tag new people each time, so if you would be interested in doing tags in the future, let me know.

If you are interested in other tags I have done, check them out here.

Pixar Book Tag

I made this post for the Blogging Extravaganza and it was so much fun. I decided to do The Pixar Tag by Mishma @ Chasing Faerytales.

Favorite Pixar movie?

Only one? There are so many I love (Up, Cars, Monsters Inc, etc.) But I think Brave is my favorite. Merida is just such a strong female character and I love her. Also, the hair struggle is real.

Toy Story: favorite childhood book you never grew out of?

Umm? I’m still a child, so this is really hard. Can I say Harry Potter even though I read those freshman year of high school? I know that I will never grow out of them.

Hogwarts is home.

A Bug’s Life: a book that felt too similar to another popular book.

The Hunger Games and Divergent certainly had their similarities.

Monsters Inc.: a villain whom you couldn’t hate.

I will have to agree with Mishma on Warner. I just love him.

ignite me

Finding Nemo: best family relationship you read about in a book

The Weasleys are family goals, let’s be honest. Except Percy, no one likes Percy.

The Incredibles: a superpower from a character you wish you had

scarlet witch.gif

Not from a book, but Scarlet Witch is pretty amazing. Who else can’t wait for Winter Soldier? AHHH!

Cars: a book where the characters go on a road trip or travel a lot

Ratatouille: your favorite sidekick in a book

shatter me

Kenji Kishimoto is my favorite ever.

Wall-E: top 5 dystopia books

I am referring to the full series in each of these.

Up: the most beautiful love story you’ve ever read

The love that Jonas shows for Gabe in The Giver is gorgeous because it is love when Jonas has never truly been loved himself.

Brave: the most BA heroine you’ve read about

I made a post about this a few days ago {strong women in fiction}. I think my number one would be Hermione because she is just all around strong and honestly Harry and Ron would be dead without her.

Inside Out: the book that gave you all “the feels”

You knew it was coming. Just look at them. GAH!

Tag, you’re it!

If you would like to do it, go for it. This tag is a bit older, so I am not sure who has done it or not. Let me know in the comments if you would like to do it.

The Book Courtship Tag

I was tagged by Paige @ Page by Paige. Her blog is awesome, so go check it out!

Phase 1 – Initial Attraction: A book that you bought because of the cover?

Also because they are really good books, but LOOK AT THOSE BEAUTIFUL COVERS (the new Remnant Chronicles cover not so much…) The Kiss of Deception Review.

Phase 2 – First Impressions: A book that you got because of the summary?

wrath and the dawn

I haven’t read it yet, but I cannot wait to! It is on my shelf just waiting (also it has a gorgeous cover).

Phase 3 – Sweet Talk: A book with great writing?

Love. This. Book. It is my favorite book I have ever had to read for school.

Phase 4 – First Date: A first book of a series which made you want to pick up the rest of the series?

And all the series possible by Rick Riordan.

Phase 5 – Late Night Phone Calls: A book that kept you up all night?

I remember reading this book in one day. (Not one sitting, mind you, because I couldn’t possibly sit doing one thing for that long.) I also remember towards the end of the book, I was sobbing so hard, I could no longer see the words on the page (one of the most frustrating things ever), and so I looked up in order to (attempt) to stop crying for long enough to finish the chapter and I noticed the time – 4:20AM. This wouldn’t have been too bad if it wasn’t for my plans (whats that?) that involved being somewhere at around 8AM. It was definitely worth it because this book is fantastic, and if you haven’t read it yet you need to. Now.

Phase 6 – Always on my mind: A book you could not stop thinking about?

ToG: Duh. Not like I talk about this series enough.

HP: Harry Potter is life.

Phase 7 – Getting Physical: A book which you love the way it feels?

Ummm? So, I just went to my bookshelf and started petting all my books… Okay. This one is alright I guess? It has a nice umm texture or something?

Phase 8 – Meeting the parents: A book which you would recommend to your family and friends?

There are so many great books, and my recs generally depend on the person, but I feel like these are books that are good for *almost everyone.

Phase 9 – Thinking about the future: A book or series you know you will re read many times in the future?

This has now become a game of “how many times will Harry Potter end up in this tag?”

Phase 10 – Share the love: Who do you tag?

I tag YOU! If you would like to do this tag, you are officially tagged. Let me know in the comments if you plan on doing it.

Love, Aubrey

[Tag] Deserted Island

I know I just posted a tag Tuesday, but I am in a tag-gy mood, so here is another one. I was sorta tagged by Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books (not directly, but she tagged everyone, so here I am).

A book you simply cannot live without.

Harry Potter.

A book that is a close second on your favorites list.

New favorite. AHHH!

A book that makes you feel at home and safe.

Percy Jackson.

Flare Gun:

A book you would recommend to someone who doesn’t read.

I feel like everyone can/has read these and enjoyed (to a certain extent) them.

A book that warms your heart.

Or really any contemporary.

A book that directed you towards your love of reading.

Anything Haddix. I also read a lot of magic tree house, and mystery books all those years ago.

Cait @ Paper Fury // Josephine @ Word Revel // Rachel, Julia, & Mishma @ A Perfection Called Books // Alexandra @ Twirling Pages // Ingrid-Lee @ Book Lover Lee

& YOU! If you would like to do this tag, go for it! Let me know in the comments, and I can add you officially above, or you can just do it.

[Tag] This or That

I was tagged by the wonderful Ayunda @ Tea and Paperbacks to do this tag (she also created it). Go check her out and follow her because she is amazing! (Also, here is the original tag post.)

The Rules:
  • Mention the creator of the tag (Ayunda @ Tea and Paperbacks).
  • Thank the blogger who tagged you!
  • Choose one of the options, you don’t have to tell the reasons why you chose that but you can also do them if you want to.
  • Tag 10 other people to do this tag to spread the love!

The Questions:

One: Reading on the couch or on the bed?

Can I make a third option? I have this fancy memory foam chair (fuf chair brand if you’re interested) and it is practically heaven. This is where I do homework and read. I also read before bed every night (on my bed), SO… bed & fuf chair.

Two: Male main character or female main character?

This is hard, and to me it doesn’t matter. I think that as long as they are good characters and have a certain level of relatability, I will love them. I like female main characters (especially the BA ones), and feel like I can relate to them more, but sometimes male characters are really fun too.

Three: Sweet snacks or salty snacks when reading?

Can I say a mixture of both?

I feel like I am cheating on every question.

Recently, I had this one snack (practically dessert) that was SO STINKIN’ LOVELY! Basically, it is a pretzel, with carmel over that, and then dark chololate!

Four: Trilogies or quartets?

I am personally just obsessed with series in general. I like how they can delve into the world and have so much character development. I feel like I read a lot of trilogies or 5+ book series, so I am going to have to say trilogies, but it isn’t a discrimination against quartets, just how it happens to turn out.

Five: First person point of view or third person point of view?

This question may very well ruin my life. I think it completely depends on the book and author. I have seen them both done so well, so I claim PASS! If I had to pick *tentatively and quietly responds* first person? purely because it allows me to know the character more since I am inside of their heads, but I like them both so much. I like switching narrators too when it is done well.

Six: Reading at night or in the morning?

Night. I like to get lots done in mornings and if I start reading that will never happen. I read every night before I go to bed because it is relaxing* and helps me to fall asleep*.

*The above statements are most likely not true.

Seven: Libraries or bookstores?

Another hard one. As much as I adore bookstores, and the look of shiny new books all lined up (really helps with my OCD), I am at the library a lot more. Libraries are the equivalent of gold because anyone can get free books whenever they want.

Eight: Books that make you laugh or make you cry?

What if I am laughing while crying. Seriously, books are generally a roller coaster of emotions, so sometimes I do both. I think I would pick laugh though, because there is nothing better* than a witty, sassy narrator who can make me laugh super hard.

* There may be a couple of things, but let’s pretend.

Nine: Black book covers or white book covers?

Does it matter? I adore a beautiful cover, but I don’t particularly care whether it is black, white, brown, or chartreuse. For the sake of trying to pick an answer, black? I don’t know.

Ten: Character driven or plot driven stories?

Characters are ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING! Give me a fantastic character and an okay plot and the book still has a chance at 5 stars, but if it is the opposite (okay character, fantastic plot) there is probably only a chance of 4 stars max.

*Note: stars don’t matter much. I was just using them to make a point.

I tag:

All of these wonderful people have fantastically wonderful blogs. Go check them out!

The Love Tag

I was tagged by Bookidote to do this tag (they also created it). Check out the original post here. Due to a lack of time, I have had to cut out a few of the questions, so I apologize for that, but I still had fun doing this tag.

Books Other People Love But You Haven’t Gotten Around to Read

Sadly this list is pretty extensive. To name a few sitting on my shelf currently that I promise I will get to soon:

A Book That You Love But No One Else Talks About

THE REST OF THE GIVER SERIES! Sure, everyone has read The Giver, but how about the other three? Raise your hand if you have. Hmmph. THAT’S what I thought. (If you have, gold star for you! Let’s be besties.) THEY COMPLETE EACH OTHER. REAADDD THEMMM!

Stand Alone Book You Love

I don’t read very many stand-alones. It is actually very rare and I don’t know why. Here’s a few. If you know of good stand-alones please suggest them in the comments.

Favorite Book Couple

This is really hard… REALLY REALLY HARD. I would have to say Wessa (Will Herondale & Tessa Gray from The Infernal Devices) & Percabeth (Percy & Annabeth from PJO)!

Series That You Love

So. Many.

If you would like to do it, go for it. Let me know in the comments. You are officially tagged.

All I Want For Christmas Book Tag

I saw this on Paige’s blog @ Page by Paige, and I love it! I had meant to do this earlier (actually I finished it about a week ago and then never posted it), but I found it today, so I figured what better time than last minute on Christmas Eve?

All I Want For Christmas Book Tag

  1. What fictional character do you want Santa to leave under your Christmas tree?

This is a really hard one. I think I would pick Kenji Kishimoto from Shatter Me. He is just so funny and I think it would be hilarious just to be best friends with him. We could go on fabulous adventures and mess with people thanks to… (if you’ve read the books you know what I’m talking about, but for the sake of no spoilers…)

  1. What character do you want to kiss under the mistletoe?

William Herondale from The Infernal Devices! If you have been around for any of my other posts, you have probably realized my undying love for Will. He is just… AHH!

  1. You write your Christmas list for Santa, what are the top 5 books on it?

This is really hard because there are SO many books I need want… The first ones that came to mind were: Winter by Marissa Meyer, Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi, Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, and The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase) by Rick Riordan. Not really sure why I picked these, but they all are amazing or I want to read them and think they will be amazing.

  1. It’s Secret Santa at Hogwarts, what do you most want to receive?

A TIME TURNER! Then I could have all the time I could ever dream of to read books and do fun stuff, but also get the things I needed to do done, and I wouldn’t have to worry about not having enough time in the day because I would have a flippin’ time turner! (Yay for run on sentences due to excitement.)

  1. You get to the spend the day with the characters and movie adaptation actors from one fandom, what do you pick?

Characters AND movie adaptation actors? When I first read this, I thought it said just the movie adaptation actors, BUT if it’s both… PERCY JACKSON. Why? You might ask. BECAUSE IT WOULD BE HILARIOUS! Just imagine the actual characters meeting the characters who played them in the movies. Oh boy.

  1. What fictional animal would you like to replace Rudolph and be able to meet on your roof?

Mrs.O’Leary from the Percy Jackson series because… well… she’s Mrs.O’Leary. She is just so fluffy and adorable (especially for a hellhound).

  1. You invite 10 fictional characters to your new years eve party, who do you pick?

In no particular order…

  1. William Herondale from The Infernal Devices trilogy
  2. Tessa Gray from The Infernal Devices trilogy
  3. Kenji Kishmoto from The Julliette Chronicles
  4. Julliette Ferrars from The Julliette Chronicles
  5. Percy Jackson from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series
  6. Leo Valdez from the Heroes of Olympus series
  7. Fred & George Weasley from the Harry Potter series
  8. Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series
  9. Cress from The Lunar Chronicles
  10. Lia from The Remnant Chronicles

  1. What character would make a good Santa? (Doesn’t have to be appearance, personality counts too)

After I read Dumbledore, I can’t think of anything else, so I’m going to steal this one and say Dumbledore.

I Tag:

I’m doing this tag at the very last minute, so anyone who wants to do it or can do it in time, you are officially tagged.

Please answer any questions you would like in the comments. I would love to know what you would pick. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!
